In pediatric oral care, children at high risk of cavities are a primary focus for preventive measures. Studies indicate that 5% sodium fluoride varnish forms a stable protective layer on the enamel surface, mitigating the effects of acidic erosion. This varnish is suitable for both primary and permanent teeth and is applied by dental professionals after routine brushing, covering the teeth for approximately 1–2 minutes. Its resin-based matrix allows controlled fluoride release, maintaining effective concentration under various oral conditions and daily routines.
For patients with sensitive oral conditions, fluoride varnish application must consider both anti-caries effectiveness and material gentleness. Resin-based 5% sodium fluoride varnish is recommended. It releases fluoride in low pH environments, promoting enamel remineralization without causing additional irritation. Clinical practice shows that controlling the varnish layer to 0.1–0.2 mm ensures efficacy while reducing tooth sensitivity. When applied by dental professionals, the treatment is comfortable and highly safe.
